The Branford Land Trust has a unique opportunity to connect the Supply Ponds and Queach Preserves to the Pisgah Brook and Saltonstall Mountain Preserves with two key acquisitions, the Pieper Woodlands and the development rights to the Johnson Farm, one of Branford's last working family farms.

The 24-acre Pieper Property is a young oak/hickory woodland with two large wetlands that lies next to the northwestern edge of the Supply Ponds/Queach Preserves. Acquiring this property will increase the value of the entire preserve, and provide easier access to the trail system on the Queach Preserve. The nearby Land Trust DeLeo property has room for parking and access to the entire Pisgah Brook/Saltonstall trail system.

The Johnson Farm provides a spectacular vista of rolling hay fields tucked between the woods on the Queach property and Pisgah Brook, at the base of Saltonstall Mountain.

The Town will own four acres that will provide a direct trail connection between the two large Town preserves for the first time. The Johnson family will continue to own and farm the rest of the protected land.

Closing the Loop
With these two acquisitions, hikers, birders, mountain bikers and cross country skiers will be able to follow the trails from the Supply Ponds near the center of Town all the way to the North Branford town line on Saltonstall Mountain. The addition of the two properties to the larger preserves also creates a loop trail from the Pieper Woodlands through the upper Queach area and back along Pisgah Brook to the DeLeo tract at the start.

We need your help to raise $475,000!
The Land Trust will purchase the Pieper Woodlands and contribute to the Johnson Farm project, receiving a conservation easement to ensure its protection in perpetuity, and building our stewardship endowment.
