Natural Resources Inventory for the Town of Branford

APPENDIX I

ANIMAL SPECIES LISTS
The following list of species have been compiled from a variety of sources including Fell (1982), CTDEP wildlife checklists (1987), Torelli (personal communication 1997, fish catch records), Proctor (1989), CT State Fisheries catch records (1998), Orson et al. (2001) and personal observations. The lists include confirmed and probable species for the Town. Not all species on this list will appear in any one section of the Town. Common animal names used here are taken from those listed in Roger Tory Peterson's "A Field Guide to the Birds East of the Rockies"(Peterson 1980); the National Audubon Society's Field Guide Series including Field Guide to North American Birds (Bull & Farand 1994), Field Guide to North American Reptiles and Amphibians (Behler & King 1979) and Field Guide to North American Seashore Creatures (Meinkoth 1981); and The Audubon Society Nature Guides to Eastern Forests (Sutton & Sutton 1986) and Wetlands (Niering 1986). The scientific name for all of these common names can be obtained from those publications.
