Book Project
Do you want
to learn more about butterflies?
Would you like to be able to identify birds by their song?
Do you want to know more about wetlands?
Would you like your children to know more about nature and the environment?
This quiet little
program, an idea of Maria Storm and brought about by a few Land
Trust Board members, was begun in May 1998. The goal was to provide
some additions to the Branford library collections in the area of
environmental topics. We decided to consider our local authors and
to try to be sure both libraries had the basic guide resources that
would help residents enjoy their experiences hiking and observing
nature.
During the past five years over 85 books, videos and CDs have been
purchased for the Blackstone and Willoughby Wallace libraries. Funding
has come from the Land Trust in the form of a yearly allocation
and also from Land Trust members who have made outright gifts, memorial
contributions and several contributions honoring birthdays or anniversaries.
The committee collects suggestions and reviews new publications
as they appear on the market. Recommendations are then made to the
libraries and the selections are made.
We encourage you to explore the many books our libraries have to
help you learn more about our environment and the world around you.
We are now reviewing suggestions for purchases this fall. If you
have read a book you think is wonderful and would like to recommend
it, email the title and author to info@branfordlandtrust.org.
And if you would like to make a contribution to this program, please
send it to the Land Trust identifying the book project.
