Mr. John Lambert, land-use lawyer, conveyed the following history of the Branford Land Trust's’s Washburn property which might be of interest to future biographers of the site:

Prior owners of the Washburn site were the Branford Granite Company (until 1900) at which time it was bought by the Bullard family from Fairfield, CT. The Bullards sold the property to Albert Lincoln Washburn in 1963. Mr. Washburn was a Professor of Artic geology at Yale University. Mr. and Mrs. Washburn subdivided the property in 1975-76(?) into a 4.5 acre lot (bought by Professor Tom Steitz), a 2.5 acre parcel (bought by James and Jennifer Walker) and the 17.8 acres donated to the Branford Land Trust in 1976. Peter Neill, past president of the Land Trust, was instrumental in the donation.

Professor Washburn graduated from Dartmouth University in 1935 and played in the Winter Olympics in Germany that year. He apparently lives in Belleview, WA and is 95 years old.
