Hentschel Salt Marsh Preserve

Peter A.D. Hentschel, resident of Stony Creek, has donated a half-acre piece of salt marsh to the Land Trust. The property, which is located near the Land Trust's Washburn and Limited Partnership tract and fronts onto a right of way off of Wallace Road, can be seen from Thimble Island Road in Stony Creek. If one drives down Thimble Island Road and looks to the left some 450 feet before the road ends, one can see (through the phragmites) a lovely 3 acre piece of salt marsh. This is an open space preserve owned by Mr. Hentschel, and the gift section is in the far-right, rear corner.

Mr. Hentschel's intent is to eventually donate other sections of the preserve to the Land Trust, and he hopes to work with neighbors to improve the viewing access to the marsh, for it certainly is a visual asset of Stony Creek. The Land Trust is very grateful to Mr. Hentschel for his generosity. We are delighted to add this property to the other lands under our protection and look forward to working with him in the future.

Mr. Hentschel has donated all but one small portion of the property as of 2007.
