Tidal marsh in Short Beach and the Umbrella Islands off Killam's Point were deeded to the Branford Land Trust by W.D. Davis et al. of Short Beach. Both properties were owned by a trust consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Davis, their two daughters and their husbands who voted to give them to the Branford land Trust.

The tidal marsh is adjacent to property donated to the Land Trust by Arnold Peterson several years ago, thus adding to the gift's significance. The Umbrella Islands, located south west of Killam's Point, are pink-colored granite outcrops that rise several feet from the Sound at high tide. Marine life and sea birds, particularly common terns, concentrate around such places.

"We are grateful to the Davises and their children for these important gifts. We always welcome donations of tidal marsh and are pleased that we can add the Umbrella Islands in Granite Bay to Green Island that was given to us by Mr. & Mrs Alexander Murphy many years ago," Beth Dock, Co-chair of the Land Trust's Acquisition Committee, said. Bill Davis, an enthusiastic hiker and outdoorsman, said, "We need to continue to expand open space in Branford for the benefit of future generations" and expressed pleasure at being able to do so.
